January Blues, greens, whites, pinks ........

One of the longest months in the calendar, and boy, doesn't it seem to go on forever ! It doesn't help that no one gets paid for 6 weeks and the last thing you want to do is spend money on luxuries, when you did that for Christmas ! However, in my honest opinion, it's one of the best months for taking a look around your home and making a list of all those niggly jobs, that you didn't have the time or inclination to sort out the year before. Areas that perhaps need a fresh coat of paint, or a lamp that you never quite committed to for that dull corner, or the rug that never got a thorough clean because who could be bothered with spring cleaning in 2021?

I do love January for making lists of all the things I'd like to achieve in the coming year. There never seems to be enough daylight hours in the winter, and of course, the colder it is the less inclined I am to work in the studio, albeit, on my list of things to do, there are two dining chairs that need stripping and recovering, an ottoman that needs to spring into life, with a dashing pink and floral velvet makeover and a child's bedroom chair that will get a snazzy makeover in alpaca fabric with pompom buttons, and that's just for February. So, for me January is perfect for mulling and designing, and there's nothing I love more than a room makeover. This year one room in the house is going to have to double as a guest room and a nursery for our granddaughter - so I've embarked on new project using a wonderful soft focus hand painted woodland scene mural from Photowall for inspiration. (Check out photowall.co.uk - the most amazing designs, easy to use website and everything from jungle themes to juicy figs, serene seas to foggy forests).

Now, I have to confess that my favourite colour is blue, and given the opportunity will use it in its many guises - midnight navy, ceruleum blue, cornflower, skyblue - in any room in the house, but this time, I thought I would challenge myself, so the room will be shades of the forest in relaxing greens and warm whites. I'm using Benjamin Moore paints (benjaminmoorepaint.co.uk), no odour, fabulous coverage and gorgeous colours. Watch this space, my next blog will include photos and full details of all the products used.

By the way, I have snuck in a bit of blue, by painting a sky mural on the sloping ceiling that will be above the cotbed. By the time I've finished this room we'll be well into February, and those January blues will be long gone !
