You gotta love a bit of traditional upholstery !

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

When I first started out on the upholstery course at the Traditional Upholstery Workshop in Meidrim, Nr Carmarthen in Wales I really didn't know what I was embarking on. I've always loved fabric, design, furniture, design periods and of course, shopping but it took a while to move on from the Interior Design City & Guilds that I worked for back in the 90's to deciding that actually what I'd really love to do was become an Upholsterer - and not just a modern day 're-coverer' but a fully fledged traditional upholsterer using old techniques and fillings. It has, in fact, moved on from horsehair and lambs wool, but techniques are much the same, as I found to my cost that very first fortnight I spend at the residential course. I've never ached so much or had so many fingers in plasters. It does get easier and the muscle memory takes over and you learn when you need to grip and when you don't.

Unlike most blogs, this one won't be necessarily in chronological order of furniture, simply because I have favourites - but also working for clients in between doing some of my own projects. The fireside chair was done a year or so ago but as it features in the website, I thought you'd like to see how I put it together !
